NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College basketball team left no doubt with a 95-33 victory over Ramapo in the opening game of the 33rd Annual Tyler Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night inside a packed Ainsworth Gymnasium. The Pioneers, who begin the season ranked No. 10 by the WBCA in the Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll, start the year 1-0. The Roadrunners are now 0-1. 



Inside the Numbers

• Last season's NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover), showed no rust with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, five steals, one rebound, and one assist
• Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) poured in 12 points and a game-high six assists
• Uta Nakamura (Manhattan, NY/Long Island Lutheran) came off the bench to score 12 points, while Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) added 11 points, five assists, and four boards
• Smith shot 61.7% (37-of-60) from the field, 47.8% (11-of-23) from three-point range and 58.8% (10-of-17) from the free throw line

Game Highlights

• Ramapo started the game 3-of-3 from the field with an 8-5 lead before Smith's Martin tied the game at 8-8. From that point, the Pioneers embarked on a 31-6 run to end the quarter ahead 39-14. In the first , Smith connected on 7-of-8 from 3-point range
• A three-point play by Kate Hackney (Thousand Oaks, CA/Bishop Alemany) midway through the second period put Smith ahead by 35 as the hosts went into the locker room up 59-18 after a layup by Jazmyn Washington (Los Angeles, CA/Birmingham Community Charter) with as time ran out
• Smith outscored Ramapo 19-2 in the third to make it 78-20 after three
• The Roadrunners scored on four-straight possessions in the fourth but the game was out of reach as Smith's largest lead of the game came on Lena Lipani's (Penfield, NY/Penfield) layup to end the game.
