NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College lacrosse team strung together five unanswered goals to close out the first quarter to surge past Western New England University, 11-7, in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon.

By the Numbers
- First year Kyra Hawk (San Jose, CA/The Harker School) netted a career-high five goals on six shots
- Sadie Tschier and Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) each tallied two goals
- Goalkeeper Shannon Houtenville (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) made a career-best 14 saves
- Smith held a 35-26 advantage in shots and amassed 31 ground balls compared to the Golden Bears' 10
Game Highlights
- Trailing 2-1 early in the first, Hawk scored back-to-back goals which jumpstarted Smith's offense to close out the period with five straight goals and a 6-2 lead
- Ella Henry cut the deficit in half for the visitors before Smith added three more befoe the half
- Jennir Arancio made it 11-4 late in the third and the Golden Bears scored a trio of goals to end the game
