Box Score NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College tennis team got off to a strong start in their match against Trinity College on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers (4-2) won all three double points before singles play. 

Match Highlights

• The No. 2 duo of Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Aranne Jung (Los Angeles, CA/North Hollywood) came out to a roaring start. The pair were offensive and confident from point one, quickly going up 7-1. At 7-1, the Bantam pair of Ella Baker and Allie Francis were able to secure one more game before Smith closed out the match 8-2 earning the first point of the day.

• The second point of the day came in the No. 3 slot.. Miranda Gibson (Bethlehem, PA/Moravian Academy) and Sabrina Wang (Beijing, China/Princeton) showed great energy on court. Both Gibson and Wang upped their game at the net putting significant pressure on the Trinity team leading to their 8-5 win. 

• Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) completed the sweep at No. 1. The pair got off to a strong start, going up 4-1. At that point, the Trinity duo of Josephine Kimball and Angelina Shyltsyna battled back to make the score 4-3. Hauser and Sauber renewed their efforts, recommitting to their game plan. From there, they cruised to an 8-5 win.

Smith Tennis started singles strong, carrying their momentum from doubles on to the court. All four starting singles matches had close first sets. After dropping the first set on all four courts, Trinity carried the energy with them, securing all six singles points and the match.
