SPRINGFIELD -
Bailey Gray (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point) knocked in her fist career homer but Smith was unable to overcome a powerful offensive display by Babson in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Potter Field on the campus of Springfield College.
Smith is now 22-15-1 on the year and will play WPI on Friday. Babson, which improved to 26-16 with two wins on Tuesday, advances to the winner's bracket and will take on MIT on Friday at 4:00pm.
Game Highlights
- Babson put up two runs in the first before Charlotte Raymond belted a three-run home run in the first inning
- Trailing 7-0, Gray belted a solo shot to left field in the third. The Beavers' bats responred right away on a three-run third
- Gray's single to center plated Kiera Collins-Joesph for the 10-2 final
- Gray went 2-for-2 on the day with 2 RBI
- Taylor Ang (San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy) and Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) collected the two other hits for Smith
- Smith starting pitcher Lucy Helms (Alameda, CA/Alameda) lasted .1 inning before allowing four runs
- Emily Doty came in for the final 3.2 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits with two strikeouts
