NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College field hockey team opened its season with a resounding 6-0 win over Nichols College in the Caryl Newhof Classic.

Game Highlights

• After a scoreless first quarter, Smith scored twice in the second period. Ramsay Smith (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) def Eva Kinnel (Newtown, PA/George School) just over two minutes into the period and then Ramsay Smith (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) added one of her own less than a minute later
• Smith added three more in the third from Caroline McShea (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic), Laura Dreher (Durham, NH/Oyster River) and Ramsay Smith (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette)
• Dreher doubled up her scoring in the fourth for her second tally of the game
• Rory Harper (Wayne, PA/Radnor) made five saves in the shutout
• Smith held a 15-5 edge in shots and 5-3 advantage in penalty corners
