NORTHAMPTON - A goal by Amelia Dion (Burlington, VT) in the 69th minute secured a 2-1 win for the Smith College soccer team against Emerson College in the NEWMAC opener for both squads Saturday afternoon.

Game Highlights

• The Lions got on the board in the 4th minute when Zoe Simmons beat her defender and buried her first goal of the year
• Smith got the equalizer when Una Keller (Davis, CA/Davis) sent a shot that was saved by the Emerson keeper. Riley McKenna (Arlington, MA/Arlington) gathered the rebound and directed her shot to the back of the net
• Amelia Dion (Burlington, VT) scored the game-winner and her first career goal in the 69th minute when she controlled a shot that hit the post and sent a strike into the goal
• Emerson held a 20-12 edge in shots on goal  and 6-3 differential in corners
• Skylar Smith (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle Regional) earned the win net making four saves
