NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College basketball team forced 30 turnovers in its 70-39 dominating win over Springfield College Saturday afternoon inside Ainsworth Gymnasium. The ninth-ranked Pioneers have now won eight in a row and improve to 12-1 on the year. The Pride dip to 8-5 overall.

- Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) scored a game-high 14 points to go with three steals, two rebounds, and two assists
- Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) also finished in double figures with 10 points, three assists, and four steals
- Uta Nakamura (Manhattan, NY/Long Island Lutheran) and Virginia Johnson (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) each chipped in nine points
- The Pioneers totaled 15 steals while forcing 30 turnovers and owned a 46-20 advantage in points in the paint
- Smith shot 48.4% (31-of-64) from the field, 28.6% (6-of-21- from three-point range and 25% from the free throw line, and 25% from the free throw line
- The Pride went 37.5% (15-of-40) from the floor, just 9.1% (1-of-11) from long distance, and 66.7% (8-of-12) from the free throw line
Game Highlights
- Smith never trailed in their final tune-up before NEWMAC season begins next weekend, jumping out to a seven point lead early on and never looking back
- The Pioneers got six points in the final minute of the opening period and led 20-12 after one
- A 19-5 second quarter performance by the home squad made it 39-17 at the half
- Springfield cut the margin to 43-26 midway through the third, but Smith responded with a 9-0 run capped by a Johnson three-ball with 3:46 on the clock. Maggie Fleming (Downers Grove, IL/Downers Grove) ended the quarter with a fast break layup as time expired to make it 56-29.
