NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Smith College (2-8-1, 1-4-0) fell to Clark University (MA) (5-3-4, 1-2-2) in a closely contested match, 5-4, on Saturday at Smith Soccer Field. Smith celebrated Senior Day today, honoring 5 seniors, including
Sky Smith (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle Regional),
Mather Davidson (Miami, FL/Ransom Everglades School),
Abby Dlug (Cinnaminson, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep),
Kaleigh Quinn (Bristol, RI/St. Mary Academy), and
Annie Spreen (Lambertville, NJ/South Hunterdon Regional).
Clark's winning goal came in the second half, sealing the result despite a hat trick from the Bears.
Kaleigh Quinn's (Bristol, RI/St. Mary Academy) three goals marked her second hat-trick of the season, a standout performance on a significant day for Smith College.
Clark (MA) started strong in the first half, with Selene Hammad's goal in the 2nd minute setting an early tone. Smith responded in the 10th minute when
Una Keller (Davis, CA/Davis) equalized, capitalizing on one of the Bears' three corner kicks. Hammad struck again in the 16th minute, briefly putting Clark back in front before
Kaleigh Quinn (Bristol, RI/St. Mary Academy) leveled the score for the Bears in the 39th minute, assisted by Keller. The first half concluded with a 2-2 deadlock, as the Bears and Clark traded goals and opportunities evenly.
Smith College and Clark (MA) engaged in a back-and-forth second half, with the Bears initially extending their lead to 3-2 when Quinn scored in the 57th minute, assisted by Keller. Clark equalized six minutes later through Emma Shaughnessy. After Georgia Louis put Clark ahead in the 72nd minute, Quinn responded with her second goal of the half in the 82nd minute, again assisted by Keller, leveling the score at 4-4. However, Louis secured the victory for Clark with a decisive goal in the 90th minute, concluding the match at 5-4 in favor of the visitors.
Sky Smith (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle Regional) recorded seven saves while facing 22 shots in the match. Keller contributed significantly by scoring one goal and assisting on three others. Quinn led the team with a hat trick, converting three of her seven shots, including five on goal.
The Bears fall to 2-8-1 overall and 1-4-0 in conference play. Clark (MA) improves to 5-3-4 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play.
