BOSTON - The Smith College soccer team fell just short to Emerson College, 2-1, Wednesday evening in a NEWMAC matchup. The Bears now hold a 2-9-1 record with a 1-5-0 mark in the NEWMAC. The Lions improve to 6-3-4 on the year and 4-0-2 conference record.
Sky Smith (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle Regional) recorded seven saves for the Bears.
First Half Highlights
- Rowan McCrary scored for the Lions in the 13th minute, assisted by Zoe Simmons.
- McCrary added a second goal in the 21st minute, extending the Lions' lead to 2-0.
- Sky Smith (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle Regional) made multiple saves for the Bears, including a stop on a shot by Ella Knox in the 24th minute.
- Hailey Forman recorded saves against shots from Kaleigh Quinn (Bristol, RI/St. Mary Academy) and Una Keller (Davis, CA/Davis) to maintain the Lions' advantage.
Second Half Highlights
- The Lions initiated the half with early pressure, recording three shots within the first two minutes, including a save by Smith.
- The Bears responded with a series of four consecutive corner kicks between the 48th and 54th minute but were unable to convert.
- Keller scored for the Bears with a penalty kick at the 75th minute, pulling the visitors within one goal.
- Despite late attempts by both teams, including a save by Smith and a shot by Keller, the Lions maintained their lead to secure the win.
