Smith Battles at ITA Regional; Cambron Notches Consolation Win, Simunyola Advances in B Draw

Middlebury, VT - Recently at the ITA Regionals, Smith had four athletes competing: Heidi Cambron (Sherbrooke, Canada/Champlain College Lennoxville), Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School), Ava Emrich (Smyrna, Delaware/Tower Hill School) and Olivia Chin (Bayside, NY/Dominican Academy)

A Draw — Singles
First-year Heidi Cambron (Sherbrooke, Canada/Champlain College Lennoxville) showed poise throughout the weekend. After a tough opening-round loss, she bounced back in consolation play with a commanding 8–4 win over Amherst's Aniwtha Duduka, using her serve to set up points and control rallies. In the next round, Cambron dictated from the baseline but fell 8–4 to MIT junior Anastasia Samets.
Ava Emrich (Smyrna, Delaware/Tower Hill School) drew eventual semifinalist Zoe Sun (Bowdoin). Emrich battled through a tight first set before dropping 6–4, adjusted early in the second, and closed the gap to 4–1, but Sun finished the match 6–4, 6–1.

Doubles
On Day 1, first-years Cambron/Emrich—fresh off an undefeated run at the Vassar Invite—took on Tufts' Natalie Hu/Alyssa Khou. The Bears mixed patterns well to disrupt rhythm, but the Jumbos were a touch more aggressive down the stretch, taking it 8–4.
Day 2 saw Cambron pair with sophomore Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) versus Middlebury's Charlotte McCann/Diya Pachamuthu. After trailing 3–0, Smith ripped off four straight games for a 4–3 lead. The teams traded holds to 7–7 before Middlebury edged the set tiebreak.

B Draw — Singles
Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) opened with a quality win over Colby's Kat Lowy, 6–2, 7–5—erasing a 2–5 second-set deficit with five straight games. She then fell to Brandeis' Nancy Zhang, 6–2, 6–4, after tightening patterns and extending points in the second set.
Olivia Chin (Bayside, NY/Dominican Academy) pushed Bates' Lia Swire in a competitive first set before dropping 7–5, with Swire closing the second to seal it 7–5, 6–2.
