Late Goal Sinks Bears in 1-0 Loss at Wellesley

WELLESLEY — A goal in the 86th minute proved to be the difference maker as the Smith College soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to Wellesley College Saturday afternoon. The Bears are now 1-7-1, 0-3-0 NEWMAC on the year. The Blue improve to 5-4-1, 2-1-0 NEWMAC.

First Half Highlights
- Smith's Una Keller (Davis, CA/Davis) tested Wellesley with an early shot in the 3rd minute, which was saved.  
- Wellesley's Elina Saab-Sundén led the offensive efforts with three attempts, two of which were saved by Sky Smith (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle Regional).  
- Smith's goalkeeper secured key saves on attempts by Elena Garcia and Lucille Sugarman to maintain a scoreless draw at the half

Second Half Highlights
- Wellesley initiated the second half pressure with shots by Sugarman and Dika KC, both saved by Smith's goalkeeper.  
- Smith responded with attempts from Julia Dolph (Healdsburg, CA/Healdsburg) and Riley Branford (Cleveland, OH/Hawken School), but McNair blocked both efforts.  
- As the clock approached the 87th minute, Gonzalez found the net for Wellesley, breaking the deadlock.  
- In the closing minutes, Maura Grazioso (Bondville, VT/Burr and Burton Academy) of the Bears had a chance to equalize, but McNair held firm to secure the win for Wellesley.
