Smith Places 4th at NEWMAC Women’s Cross Country Championship

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Under sunny, gusty 55° conditions at Highland Park, hosted by Wheaton College, Smith finished 4th of 12 teams at the 2025 NEWMAC Championship with 141 points. MIT won with 24, followed by Coast Guard and Wellesley. Coast Guard's Claire Semerod captured the individual title in 21:26.6 over 6k. Lucy Kreipke (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) earns All-Conference honor as a Top-19 finisher in the race. 

Massachusetts Institute of Technology produced five of the top seven individual finishers as well as seven of the top 10 for a total of 24 points. United States Coast Guard Academy senior Claire Semerod placed first overall with a time of 21:26.6 to win the race by nearly 12 seconds. She was named the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Coast Guard placed second as a team with 66 points, while Wellesley College was third with 112 points. Smith College slotted in at fourth with a total of 141 points and Springfield College was fifth with a tally of 165 points. 

Junior Lucy Kreipke (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) crossed the finish in 22:53.1 to place 13th and earn All-Conference honors as a top-19 finisher. First-year Avery Maiese posted a time of 23:54.1 to finish 28th.  Junior Sofia Jurusz (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Middle Township) followed in 24:14.1 for 31st, before senior Hillary Connor (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) crossed at 24:51.6 to place 48th overall.  Senior Lyda Martin (San Antonio, TX/Lee) closed out Smith's scoring five in 53rd with a mark of 24:57.5.

    The Bears will await to find their fate to see if any runners have qualified for the NCAA MIdeast Regional Championships which will be held at Saint Lawrence in two weeks time.
