NORTHAMPTON, MA - Tennis got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they took down Connecticut College with the score of 5-2. Smith took the doubles point behind wins from the Goshgarian sisters as well as the duo of
Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and
Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School).
Doubles Domination
Smith got out to a quick 1-0 with wins from
Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and
Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) in the first matchup of doubles. They would win with a score of 7-5.
Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and
Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) were also able to secure a doubles win which allowed Smith to clinch the point in the doubles round.
Singles Success
Smith was able to get four wins of six in the singles round and with
Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) getting the clinching win.
Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) won her match in the #2 singles by the scors of 6-4 and 6-4.
Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) had a tight battle in the #3 singles with it going nto a tiebreaker. She would end up prevailing with a final score of 5-7, 6-1 and 7-6.
Sabrina Wnag also saw success in singles with a straight win with the scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
Tabitha Bastress (Charlotte, VT/Champlain Valley Union High School) also had a match that needed to go wo a tiebreak with a hard fought battle in the #5 singles. The scores of the match were 6-4, 2-6 and 1-0 in favor of Bastress.
Up Next
Smith will travel to Boston next weekend to face Emerson in another NEWMAC matchup. This match will begin at 10. While at Emerson, they will also face off against Brandeis, that match will begin at 3:30.
