NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College lacrosse team held off a comeback attempt by Keene State as the the Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the year with a 12-9 win. on Wednesday evening. The Owls (2-1) suffer their first loss of the season. 

Top Performers

• Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) paced Smith with four goals and one assist
• Caroline Sanders (Orange County, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) had three goals and two assists, while Kyra Hawk (San Jose, CA/The Harker School) and Layna Fitzgerald (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) each scored twice
• Darci DeAngelis (Boise, ID/Boise) finished with four caused turnovers 
• In goal, Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) and Shannon Houtenville (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) combined to make 10 saves

Game Highlights

• Tied at two with under four minutes in the first, Smith scored four straight to hold a 6-2 lead heading into the second. Sanders posted a hat trick and added an assist in the opening period. 
• Layna Fitzgerald (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) began the scoring for Smith in the second as the teams went to haltime with Smith ahead, 9-4. 
• Tschider tallied the lone goal of the third period to go up 10-4.
• The Owls scored the first three goals of the fourth over a span of 10 minutes to come within 10-7
• Back-to-back tallies from Caroline Weyrich and Kyra Hawk (San Jose, CA/The Harker School)s sealed the win before the Owls added two more in the final 15 seconds
