Tennis Dominates Salve Regina in Midweek Sweep

Northampton, MA - The Smith College Tennis team earned a dominant 7-0 NEWMAC victory over Salve Regina Tuesday afternoon at the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility.

The Pioneers showcased their depth and discipline from start to finish, dropping just four total games across six singles and three doubles matches.

Smith jumped ahead early in doubles, as Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) set the tone at No. 2 with a 6–1 win. Moments later, Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) matched that scoreline at No. 1. Sabrina Wang (Beijing, China/Princeton) and Tabitha Bastress (Charlotte, VT/Champlain Valley Union High School) completed the sweep with a 6–2 win on court three.

Singles play was equally dominant. Hauser, the team's top-line competitor, continued her strong form with a 6–1, 6–2 win at No. 1. First-year Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) was in control throughout a 6–1, 6–1 win at No. 2, while the Goshgarian sisters were flawless on courts three and four—each securing 6–0, 6–0 victories.

Wang followed suit at No. 5 with a 6–0, 6–2 result, and Bastress wrapped up the sweep,  dropping just one game in a 6–1, 6–0 win.

Smith returns to NEWMAC play later this week as they travel to Wellesley on Saturday. First serve is at 12pm.
