Box Score WELLESLEY, MA. – The Smith College tennis team continued its NEWMAC slate on Saturday, showing grit and flashes of momentum in a 6–1 setback against host Wellesley College.
The Pioneers' point came at No. 5 singles, where Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) delivered a poised and efficient performance, earning a 6–4, 6–3 victory. Goshgarian dictated tempo from the baseline and stayed composed in the big moments, notching a big conference win of the season.
Smith had several other strong efforts throughout the match. Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) pushed Wellesley's top-line players at both No. 3 doubles and No. 2 singles. In singles play, she forced a first-set tiebreak against Xu and stayed competitive deep into the second, eventually falling 7–6(3), 6–4 in one of the tightest matches of the day.
Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) also turned in a consistent effort at No. 4 singles, trading long rallies in a 6–3, 6–3 battle.
Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) and Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) paired up at No. 1 doubles and played with energy against Wellesley's top pair, however, dropping by a score of 6-0.
