NORTHAMPTON, MA. –  Smith Tennis delivered a commanding 6-1 win over NEWMAC foe Wheaton College. With the win, Smith clinched the #4 seed in the NEWMAC tournament. 

With the win, Smith Tennis moves to 8-9 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

Smith started strong in doubles clinching the point aftae Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) and Ayla Hauser's (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) win in #2 doubles. On senior day, Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) won their doubles match with a score of 6-2.

The Pioneers carried that momentum into singles, winning all but one match. The closest match of the day came in #2 singles, with Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) needing extra points to get the job done. The final scores from that match were 6-1, 3-6 and 1-0 with the tiebreak going to ten points. Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) was also able to get another win, this time in singles in the #3 spot. Tabitha Bastress (Charlotte, VT/Champlain Valley Union High School) clinched a win in the #4 singles with 6-1 and 6-2. Sophia Dube (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal School) also went to a tie break and was able to get another win for Smith in the #6 singles spot. 

Smith will look to carry this momentum into the NEWMAC Quarterfinals matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
