NORTHAMPTON, MA. – The Smith College tennis team secured a spot in the NEWMAC Semifinals with a decisive 4–1 win over Springfield College on Tuesday afternoon at the Smith Tennis Courts.
The Pioneers established early momentum by clinching the doubles point. The No. 2 pair of Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) delivered a commanding 6–0 victory.
While the No. 3 duo of Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) and Sabrina Wang (Beijing, China/Princeton) secured a 6–1 win. The No. 1 doubles match, featuring Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School), was left unfinished with Smith leading 5–2 before Smith had clinched the doubles point.
In singles play, Smith continued its dominance. At No. 2, Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) defeated Gabby Heaney-Secord 6–1, 6–2.
Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) secured a 6–3, 6–0 win over Alysa Elliott at No. 4. The No. 6 match concluded with Tabitha Bastress (Charlotte, VT/Champlain Valley Union High School) winning by retirement after leading 6–0, 0–0.
With this victory, Smith advances to face top-seeded MIT in the NEWMAC Semifinals on Saturday.

Smith will travel to Cambridge on Saturday afternon to matchup with MIT at 12pm.
