Softball Honors Seniors in Regular Season Finale Against Springfield

NORTHAMPTON, MA — Smith Softball celebrated Senior Day on Friday afternoon, recognizing the careers of Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) and Taylor Ang (San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy) as the Pioneers closed out NEWMAC regular season play with a home doubleheader against Springfield College. Despite a pair of competitive performances, Smith dropped both games, 7–1 and 3–0.

Game One: Springfield 5, Smith 1

After two scoreless innings, Springfield struck first with four runs in the third.

The Pride added two more in the fifth and one in the seventh to stretch the lead.

Smith's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh, when senior Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) led off with a double and later came around to score on an RBI single from Ava Lansbury (Arlington, VA/Washington-Liberty)

Junior Emilie Doty threw a complete game, striking out four while walking two.

Game Two: Springfield 3, Smith 0

Smith had scoring opportunities in multiple innings but couldn't push a run across in the second game. 

Bailey Gray (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point) threw a complete game, allowing just two earned runs while working out of several jams to keep Smith within reach.

Offensively, Smith tallied three hits, including singles from Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors), Elinor Washington (Sacramento, CA/Pleasant Grove), and Kat Wajerski (Bellevue, WA/Newport).

Corey finishes her career with have playing in 130 games, starting 19 of them which is good for third all-time in the Smith record books. Taylor Ang (San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy) appeared in 11 tweleve games for Smith threoughout her career.
