Feuer Named NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, Her Second Straight Weekly Honor

October 19, 2026

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Smith College middle blocker Anna Feuer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) was named the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday after anchoring the Bears' front line in conference sweeps of Clark University and Salve Regina. It is Feuer's third NEWMAC weekly honor of the season.

Feuer totaled 8.0 blocks, three of them solo, across six sets (1.33 per set). She also hit .545 with 13 kills and one error on 22 attacks. No. 21 Smith held both NEWMAC opponents under .080 hitting, with Clark at .071 and Salve Regina at .076. Feuer entered the week ranked eighth in Division III at 1.31 blocks per set, through games of Oct. 15.

At Clark on Oct. 13, Feuer recorded six blocks, two solo, and was part of six of Smith's seven team blocks in a 25-23, 25-10, 25-23 win. Three of those blocks came during a five-point run on Skye Higashihara's serve that turned a 7-7 tie in the first set into a 13-7 lead. With the third set tied 18-18, her solo stuff of Isabella Alcott gave the Bears a 19-18 edge. Feuer added six kills on 10 errorless swings, a .600 hitting percentage.

Against Salve Regina on Oct. 17 at Ainsworth Gymnasium, Feuer hit .500 with seven kills and added two blocks. One of them came with Sara Warren (Long Beach, CA/Sato) on set point to close the opening frame, 25-21. Smith (21-1, 7-0 NEWMAC) has won 12 straight matches.

Feuer and the Bears return to NEWMAC play Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Emerson College in Boston, with first serve set for 7 p.m.
