Smith Basketball to Host "Gameday at the Birthplace" November 7

October 27, 2026

NORTHAMPTON - Smith Athletics is bringing the excitement of a college basketball pregame show to campus with Gameday at the Birthplace on Saturday, November 7 starting at 2:00pm, a special event celebrating the trajectory of women's basketball at Smith, from its origin right here on our campus, to the numerous historic milestones the team has accomplished.

Inspired by the atmosphere and energy of ESPN College GameDay, Gameday at the Birthplace will bring together students, faculty, staff, and fans for a high-energy celebration ahead of Smith basketball action. The event will feature a pregame show, exclusive highlight videos, live interviews, gameday food by local restaurants, free t-shirts, a beer garden, 360 degree photobooth, build-a-bear, and face painting before Smith begins the 2026-27 season at 4:00pm vs Immaculata.

"At the birthplace of women's basketball, we have a unique ability to tell the stories of the past while celebrating the successes of today. The women at Smith in the late 1800s didn't wait for someone else to imagine the future of basketball, they created it. I'm proud that this is the mindset that defines us today. This incredible Gameday experience will set a standard, challenge how we honor DIII women athletes, and help push Division III women's basketball forward. They had the vision to start this game, and now we have the responsibility to help shape its future." -Head Coach Lynn Hersey
