CAMBRIDGE - Smith College swimming & diving jumped from seventh to sixth place out of 10 teams on the second day of the NEWMAC Championships, hosted by MIT.
MIT commands the team competition with 615 points. Coast Guard (305) and Wellesley College (246) make up the podium while Babson (232), Wheaton (200), Smith (197), WPI (176), Springfield (157), Clark (105) and Mount Holyoke (94( round out the tightly contested field.
Highlights
- Smith's 200 free relay A of Abby Caputo, Maggie Cline (Santee, CA/West Hills), Susannah Winfield (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), and Madeleine Lucas (Salem, MA/Salem) placed seventh overall in 1:41.84
- Senior Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy) finished third overall on the 1-meter board with a score of 449.50. First year Miranda Strink placed ninth with 374.95 points
- The 400 medley relay squad of Caputo, Emma Schultz (Hyattsville, MD/Elizabeth Seton), Jessie Wang (Princeton, NJ/Princeton), and Madeleine Lucas (Salem, MA/Salem) clocked in a seventh place time of 4:03.16 in the A Final
Day three of three commences at 10:00 AM tomorrow morning with prelims before the 6:00 session of finals.
