CLERMONT, Fla. — Smith College (1-2) fell to Wesleyan University (Conn.) (6-3) with a final score of 4–3, despite a seven-hit effort, in a neutral-site game at Hancock Park Field 3. The Bears took an early lead with a run in the first inning, but Wesleyan countered with two runs in the second and another two in the fourth, which proved decisive.
In the first inning, Smith took an early lead.
Violet Peverly (Granby, CT/Loomis Chaffee) scored on a wild pitch after advancing to third on a walk, contributing to Smith's 1–0 lead by the end of the inning.
Wesleyan responded in the second inning. Sam Chappell's double followed by a series of strategic plays allowed Kelly Baker to score, putting Wesleyan ahead 2–1.
In the fourth inning, Wesleyan extended its lead with a home run by Molly Lennon and an RBI single from Jordynn Killion, making it 4–1. However, Smith narrowed the gap in its half of the inning.
Ally Knutson's (Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) double drove in
Taz Tamai (Cincinati, OH/The Seven Hills School) and
Bailey Gray (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point), reducing Wesleyan's lead to 4–3. Notably, this marked the third straight game in which Knutson recorded at least two hits, showcasing her consistent offensive contributions.
Despite efforts in the final innings, the Bears were unable to score further, leaving the final score at Wesleyan 4, Smith 3.
Ally Knutson (Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) recorded two doubles and drove in two runs, contributing significantly to the team's offense.
Violet Peverly (Granby, CT/Loomis Chaffee) scored one run and added a stolen base.
Bailey Gray (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point) pitched 6 innings, allowing only three hits and striking out three, maintaining a WHIP of .83.
