ORANGE, Calif. — Smith Tennis (2-4) narrowly fell to Chapman University (4-3) with a final score of 3-4 on Tuesday at the Anderson Tennis Center. Smith Tennis captured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Smith Tennis secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two.
Ava Emrich (Smyrna, Delaware/Tower Hill School) and
Heidi Cambron (Sherbrooke, Canada/Champlain College Lennoxville) triumphed at No. 1 doubles with a 7-6 win over Malina Dahms and Makaylee Dahms.
Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and
Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) followed suit at No. 2 doubles, defeating Sofiya Khegay and Jaya Manhas 6-2. Chapman University managed to take the match at No. 3 doubles, where Chloe McBride and Gwen Ricordel prevailed 6-3 against
Emily Wang (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) and
Olivia Chin (Bayside, NY/Dominican Academy).
In singles play, Chapman quickly evened the score. Chloe McBride edged
Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. The Bears regained momentum at No. 2 singles as
Ava Emrich (Smyrna, Delaware/Tower Hill School) claimed a hard-fought 0-6, 6-1, 7-5 win over Makaylee Dahms. However, Chapman responded with Sofiya Khegay's straight-set victory over
Heidi Cambron (Sherbrooke, Canada/Champlain College Lennoxville), 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
The competition remained tense as Chapman surged ahead with Malina Dahms leading against
Emily Wang (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) at No. 4 singles before the match was left unfinished with scores at 5-2. The Bears added another point at No. 5 singles, where
Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) decisively defeated Jaya Manhas 6-0, 6-3. The decisive match came at No. 6 singles, where Tahlia Cahill edged
Olivia Chin (Bayside, NY/Dominican Academy) in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, securing Chapman's victory.
Smith will face off against the University of Redlands tomorrow afternoon at 4PM PST.
