NORTON, Mass. — The Smith College tennis team rolled to a 7-0 NEWMAC road victory over Wheaton College (Mass.) on Tuesday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts, sweeping all six singles flights and claiming the doubles point to improve to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Doubles Point
Smith secured the doubles point by taking two of three flights. At No. 1, Heidi Cambron (Sherbrooke, Canada/Champlain College Lennoxville) and Ava Emrich (Smyrna, Delaware/Tower Hill School) teamed up for a 6-2 win over Kara Greenlee and Alissa Ortiz. Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) mirrored that scoreline at No. 2, handling Laila Haraj-Sai and Asia-Leigh Hollis 6-2. Wheaton avoided the doubles sweep at No. 3, where Dayana Caluna (Plainfield, NJ/College Achieve) and Sophia Dube (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal School) fell 6-4 to Amelie Robinson and Taylor Wilson.
Singles Sweep
The Bears carried the momentum into singles, where all six players won in straight sets. Emrich set the tone at No. 2 with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 decision over Haraj-Sai, and Cambron matched her at No. 3, dropping only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win against Ortiz. Hauser completed the top-flight sweep at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Greenlee.
Simunyola kept the pressure on at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hollis, while Emily Wang (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 over Robinson. Tabitha Bastress (Shelburne, VT/Champlain Valley Union High School) closed the afternoon at No. 6, defeating Lily Runyan 6-3, 6-2.
