WALTHAM, Mass. — Smith College (9-8, 3-1) secured a decisive 11-2 victory over Emerson College (3-10, 1-2) in the first game of a doubleheader at Bentley Field on Friday, followed by a close 3-2 win in the second game against Emerson (3-11, 1-3).
In the first game, Smith's offense was propelled by its ability to capitalize in the fourth and sixth innings, scoring four runs each while limiting Emerson to just two runs in the fourth inning. The game remained scoreless through the first two innings until Smith took the lead in the third.
Elinor Washington (Sacramento, CA/Pleasant Grove) singled and stole second, followed by
Lily Hackett's (Concord, NH/Concord) double to right center, bringing Washington home. Hackett later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Bears a 2-0 advantage. Score at the end of the third: Smith 2, Emerson 0.
