WORCESTER - The Smith College rowing team placed eighth out of 19 teams in the 2026 National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday. The results of all races figured into the NIRC Women's Point Trophy team standings. The Bears' third varsity 8 and fourth varsity 8 raced in the Grand Final, while the varsity 8 and second varsity 8 competed in the petite final.

Smith, which was ranked fifth in the May 5 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Top 15 poll, clocked in the fastest time in the varsity eight petite final with a time of 7:21.752.

Smith finished in second place out of six boats in the second varsity eight petite final with a time of 7:47.170. The Bears third varsity 8 crossed the line in sixth place in the grand final in 8:12.891. Smith's fourth varsity eight boat raced in the grand final, finishing fourth in 8:25.363.
