Rowing Competes in Grand Final at NERC

WORCESTER - The Smith College rowing team turned in strong races at the New England Championship on Saturday, with the Bears placing seventh in the final points standings. The Bears scored 33.20 points overall, finishing behind Tufts, Williams, Trinity, Bates, Amherst, and MIT. 

The first varsity eight placed second in their morning heat to Williams with a time of 7:11.362. Notably, they edged out the NEWMAC Champions Wellesley by under a second. In the Grand final, the 1V took sixth place in 6:59.742. 

Elsewhere, the fourth varsity eight took third in 8:26.897 behind Tufts and Bates and ahead of Trinity. The third varsity eight finished second in their morning heat to advance to the Grand Final where they finished sixth in 7:20.064. The 2V placed second in the Petite Final in 7:07.789.

Smith returns to Worcester and will race against top crews at the National Invitational Rowing Championship this Sunday, May 10 on Lake Quinsigamond.
