Pasarkar Earns First Shutout in Draw at UMass Boston

BOSTON - The Smith College soccer team played to a scoreless draw at UMass Boston on Tuesday in its season opener. Bear goalkeeper Blair Pasarkar (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) earned her first career shutout, making three saves. Both teams begin the year 0-0-1.

"While some ties feel like a letdown, this result is one to be proud of," said head coach Kathy Brawn. "A total team effort in both the lead up, and the match itself, created 90 minutes of the best soccer we've played to date. knowing there's much work to be done, we move forward with many positives to build upon."

  • The two teams played a scoreless first half, with the Beacons holding a 5-3 edge in shots and 2-1 advantage in corner kicks
  • Smith generated three shots in the opening frame from Abby Dickson (Deerfield, NH/Concord) and Amelia Dion (Burlington, VT/Burlington)
  • Jordyn Riley (Attleboro, MA/Attleboto) put a late Bears attempt on frame, forcing a save from Janiya Matier in the 44th minute
  • The Beacons recorded 12 shots and three corners in the second period
  • Pasarkar made three saves, including key stops late in the game to preserve the tie
