NORTHAMPTON - Sophomore Nyla Flamer (Trenton, NJ/Stuart Country Day School) registered a pair of assists and the Smith College field hockey team defeated Gordon College, 3-0, in the opening game of the Caryl Newhof Classic Saturday afternoon. With the win, Smith improves to 1-1 on the season, while the Fighting Scots drop to 0-2.

• Mimi Siegel (Chester, CT/Valley Regional) took a Nyla Flamer (Trenton, NJ/Stuart Country Day School) pass with less than a minute in the quarter to go up 1-0

• Smith scored twice in the third quarter, with Szostalo finishing at 32:33 and Megan O'Connor (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth Abbey School) scoring off a Flamer assist at 34:18 to make it 3-0.

• ArI Martinez led Smith with three shots in the final quarter and goalkeeper Aiden Arrington (Philadelphia, PA/Gwynedd Mercy) made a save as the Bears completed the shutout
