NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Smith College senior middle blocker Anna Feuer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The honor follows a 4-0 weekend for the Bears at the Bonnie May Invitational at Ainsworth Gymnasium on Sept. 4-5.

Feuer recorded 16 total blocks — three solo and 13 assisted — across just 11 sets, an average of 1.45 per set that led Smith by a wide margin. She reached at least one block in all four matches while helping the Bears hold three opponents to straight-set losses.

Her signature performance came in Smith's five-set win over Bridgewater State, where Feuer put up 10 blocks, including nine assisted, to go with seven kills and two service aces in the longest match of the weekend. She closed the tournament with nine kills on 15 error-free swings (.600) and four more blocks in a sweep of Hamilton.

Feuer was also Smith's most efficient attacker over the weekend, hitting .419 with 22 kills against four errors on 43 attempts. She added four aces and finished with 35.5 points despite playing the fewest sets of any Smith starter.

The Bears return to action Friday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. against Clarkson in Rochester, N.Y., at the tournament hosted by the University of Rochester.
