Pioneers Edged By Vassar In Squash

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Helen Queenan (Wellesley, Mass./Newton Country Day) and Catie Blunt (Boston, Mass./Commonwealth) stayed undefeated in singles play on the year, but the Smith College squash team fell 6-3 to Vassar College on Thursday night.

Queenan recorded a three set win over Avery Siciliano at No. 4 with an 11-3, 11-8, 11-3 triumph, while Blunt topped Nanzy Zhang in five sets (7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9) at No. 9.  Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville So.) added a third point for Smith at No. 8 as she shut out Andrea Fahmy 11-2, 11-9, 11-4.

Vassar got critical wins at No. 3 when Willow Thompson in five sets (11-13, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-4) beat Jasmine Wallas (Nassau, Bahamas/Emma Willard (N.Y.)), and at No. 5 when Lisa Evans beat Elizabeth Guyman (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) (11-4, 7-11, 11-9, 11-3).

The Pioneers will take part in a dual match on Sunday, Nov. 21, hosted by Mt. Holyoke College.  Smith will play Tufts University at 2 p.m. and Mt. Holyoke at 4 p.m.
