Squash Head Coach Tim Bacon Announces Resignation

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith College squash head coach Tim Bacon announced his resignation Friday. Bacon has led the Smith squash program since 1994.
 
"Tim has poured his heart and soul into Smith since his arrival in 1994," said Lynn Oberbillig, Director of Athletics and Recreation at Smith.  "For the past 21 years, he has mentored and developed student-athletes in the classroom, on the court, and in life.  We wish him well and thank him for his many years of service to Smith."
 
Bacon is the winningest coach in the program's history, amassing 139 career wins. In 1998, his fourth full season as head coach, the Pioneers won 11 matches and finished 12th in the nation. In 2004, Bacon was awarded the Collegiate Squash Association's (CSA) Chaffee Award, given annually to a coach whose team has demonstrated the qualities of sportsmanship, teamwork, character, and improvement.
 
Since the '04 season, Bacon has coached four Wetzel Award winners- given annually to a senior who began playing squash in college and has progressed to a high level of skill, while seven individuals have been featured in the end of the year CSA Rankings. In 2012, the Pioneers won the Epps Cup, presented to the winners of the D division of the National Team Championships.
 
Bacon is a Squash Canada Level 4 CSCS certified coach who led the Canadian Junior Men's National Team at the 1990 World Championships. He is a former chair of the Sport Science Committee for Squash Canada and a frequent speaker at International Coaching conferences. He plans to pursue opportunities in sports consulting.
