SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--The Smith College squash team lost a pair of matches this weekend, falling to Tufts University 8-1 and Mt. Holyoke College 9-0.
Elena Plesco (Chinisau, Moldova/Iulia Hasdeu) was the only Pioneer to bring home a point, defeating Tufts' Caitlin Doherty 13-11, 11-6, 11-7 at No. 9.
Catie Blunt (Boston, Mass./Commonwealth) was narrowly defeated by Rise Meyers, taking the first two sets before falling 11-3, 11-5, 3-11, 8-11, 5-11 at No. 8.
Jennifer Krain (Rosemont, Pa./Harriton) also pushed Alyse Vinoski to the limit at No. 5, loseing 3-11, 10-12, 8-11.
Against Mt. Holyoke, the No. 13 team in the country, Smith was shutout for the first time this season. Plesco came the closest to a victory, falling to Sarah Moore 4-11, 4-11, 6-11 at No. 9.
Smith will take part in the Wesleyan round robin on Dec. 4-5, facing Middlebury, George Washington, Wililam Smith, and Wesleyan.
