AMHERST, Mass.--Clair Oblamski (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) recorded the only Smith College win at No. 2 as the Pioneers fell to No. 14 Amherst College 8-1 on Wednesday night.

Oblamski, playing against Amherst's Mimi Bell, topped her counterpart 11-8, 11-6, 11-3 en route to her third win in four matches.  Elena Plesco (Chinisau, Moldova/Iulia Hasdeu) came close to a win at No. 9, where she held a two set lead over Caroline Dreyspool before falling 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8.   Amherst's seven other wins came by the score of 3-0. 

Smith will be off until January 14, when they will host the Pioneer Valley Invitational.
