Smith Knocks Off Mount Holyoke For Fifth Straight Win

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Smith College shot 55.3% from the floor to open NEWMAC play with a 66-33 win over Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday night.  First year Maddie Page (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Acad.) netted 18 points off the bench as Smith improved to 5-0, 1-0 NEWMAC.  Mount Holyoke fell to 1-4, 0-1 NEWMAC.

The teams traded baskets to open the game, but Smith blew the game open with a 15-0 run over the next eight minutes.  Ellie Giles (Charlottesville, Va./St. Annes Belfield) knocked down back-to-back baskets, and Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) drained a jumper and a three pointer to up the margin to 13-2.  Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) knocked down a 15 foot jumper, then fed Drummond for a basket that forced Mount Holyoke into a timeout.

Smith kept it going, increasing the lead to 22-5 on Page's layup, and the first year rebounded Giles' miss and put it back for a 28-7 lead with 4:41 left in the half.  Smith kept the Lyons in single figures for the half, going into the break up 32-9 on Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate)'s basket with 42 seconds left.

The Pioneers kept pouring it on in the second half, going up 38-13 on Amanda Zakoske (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School)'s hoop with 15:36 left in the half.  Page converted a three point play for a 48-21 lead, and Smith led by as many as 35 points on Carly McIver (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead)'s bucket with 1:54 to play.

Page scored 14 of her 18 points after halftime, shooting 8-of-10 from the floor and pulling down a game high eight rebounds.  Drummond tossed in 17 points, connecting on 7-of-12 shots including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.  Annabel Barrett led Mount Holyoke with eight points.

Smith limited Mount Holyoke to 24.4% shooting (10-for-41) and forced 23 Mount Holyoke turnovers. 


Smith will play at Wheaton College in a 2 p.m. NEWMAC contest on December 3.  Mount Holyoke will host No. 17 Babson College at 1 p.m. on December 3.
