NORTHAMPTON - Smith College basketball was named the NCAA Statistical Champion in two categories, the NCAA Media Coordination and Statistics Staff announced. The Bears led the country in field goal percentage and three-point field field goal percentage in 2025-26.
The Bears finished the 2025-26 season with a 28-2 record, averaging 74.0 points per game and won by an average of 22.8 points. Smith paced the country in shooting percentage (46.56%) and three-point field goal percentage (40.14%). Junior guard
Virginia Johnson (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) ranked fourth in the country in three-point field goal percentage (43.68%), converting 76-of-174 from downtown and made five in a game twice this year.
The Bears 40.14 three-point percentage is highest in program history and 224 total three-pointers made this season ranks third all-time. The Bears made a season-best 17 three-pointers on January 21 against Mount Holyoke and a season-high 42 field goals versus Husson on December 30, 2025.
Smith won its sixth consecutive NEWMAC Championship, something no other men's or women's team has ever done. The Bears earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, winning its first round game against Union.
