NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College squash team finished the 2011 portion of their schedule with a 7-2 loss to Amherst College on Wednesday night. Smith falls to 5-7, while Amherst improves to 2-1.
Jen Krain earned Smith's first point with a 3-2 win at No. 6. After dropping the first two games to Megan Clower by scores of 11-5, 11-7, Krain took the next three games 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 to earn the win.
Catie Blunt (Boston, Mass./Commonwealth) won the other point for Smith with a 14-12, 7-11, 11-6, 11-7 win over Caroline Dreyspool at No. 9.
Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville So.) fell in a tough decision at No. 7, falling to Rachel Lupien 3-11, 11-2, 7-11, 11-6, 6-11. Amherst also got wins from Arielle Lehmen, who beat
Jacqueline Zhou (Singapore, Singapore/) 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 11-3 at No. 1 and Evelyn Kramer, who toppled
Clair Oblamski (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) 11-5, 11-9, 11-6 at No. 2.
Anna Elizabeth Scheidt beat Joanne Poon 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 at No. 3, and Mary Katherine McMeill beat
Eunice Zhao (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) 11-7, 12-10, 11-9 at No. 4.
Helen Queenan (Wellesley, Mass./Newton Country Day) fell to Lena Rice 11-2, 11-5, 11-8 at No. 5, and Martha Reiser beat
Elena Plesco (Chinisau, Moldova/Iulia Hasdeu) 11-4, 11-2, 11-6 at No. 8.
Smith will be off until January 20, when they will host the Pioneer Valley Invitational.
