NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (6-1, 2-1 NEWMAC) will look to get back on the right track when they embark on the first of three consecutive road games, traveling to the United States Coast Guard Academy (4-3, 0-3 NEWMAC) for a 7:30 pm on Thursday night.
Last Meeting: Smith shot 16-of-19 from the free throw line
in a 58-43 win on February 5, 2011.
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) led all scorers with 15 points as the Pioneers forced 20 turnovers in the win.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season with a 54-46 defeat to Springfield College on Thursday night. Down by as many as seven, Smith pulled within two with 1:37 to play, but the Pride made six free throws in the final minute to seal the win.
Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) led Smith with 13 points off the bench.
Coast Guard Overview: After winning the first four games of the season, Coast Guard has dropped three in a row, include two tough defeats to Clark and MIT. The Bears fell 65-64 to Clark on a layup with seven seconds remaining, then fell in overtime to MIT, 73-67.
Smith Player to Watch: Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate) was a bright spot off the bench for Smith on Tuesday night, pulling down a team high seven rebounds and scoring six points.
Coast Guard Player to Watch: Katlin Ward leads the team in scoring (16.0 ppg), assists (3.9 apg), and steals (2.7 spg) and is second on the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg).
