Smith Routs Clark, 92-59

January 11, 2012

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Maddie Page (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Acad.) led four Smith players in double-figures with a career high 19 points as the Smith College basketball team scored the most points for 13 years in a 92-59 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference win over Clark University on Wednesday night.

The win improves Smith's record to 10-3 overall, with a 5-2 mark in NEWMAC play.  Clark suffers their first conference loss of the season, and is now 10-4 overall, with a 6-1 NEWMAC ledger.  The 92 points were the most Smith scored in a game since a 98-92 double-overtime win over Coast Guard on February 13, 1999.  Smith last hit the 90 point mark in a regulation game in a 93-33 win over Wesleyan College on January 22, 1994.

With the game tied at 12, Smith went on an 15-0 run to take an insurmountable lead with 12:30 left in the first half.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) got the party started with a three pointer, and Amanda Zakoske (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) scored the next five points for Smith, the last coming on a conventional three point play.  Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) fed Lizzy BelBruno (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) for a jumper that gave Smith a 27-12 lead before Clark scored on a layup by Maggie Croft - the Cougars' first basket for four minutes.

Alyssa Barrett (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) nailed a three with 2:02 to go to give Smith their biggest lead of the half at 49-32, and Smith only gave up one more basket before the break, leading 49-34 at halftime.  Page pushed Smith lead out to 64-42 when she scored six straight points, and Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) gave Smith a 24 point lead (70-46) on a coast-to-coast layup with 9:24 to play.  The Pioneers took their biggest lead of the game when Barrett drained two free throws with 1:52 left for a 90-55 advantage.

Kelsey Geidyman led Clark with 18 points, while Emily Reilly and Ashleigh Condon went for 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Page finished with a fantastic stat line - 19 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, and two assists.  She was joined in double-figures by Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) and Amanda Zakokoske, who both netted 12 points, and Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate), who tossed in 11 points.  Smith outrebounded the Cougars 48-36 and forced 22 turnovers.  Every player scored for Smith, who welcomes No. 21 Babson College to Ainsworth Gym on Saturday, January 14 at 2 p.m.  Clark will play at Wheaton (Mass.) for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
