NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The second meeting between Smith and MIT in 17 days gets underway when the Pioneers (11-4, 6-3 NEWMAC) travel to Cambridge to face the Engineers (8-7, 4-5 NEWMAC) in a 1 p.m. contest. It's the second of three straight road games for Smith, while it's the final game of a three game homestand for MIT.
Last Meeting: Smith opened the semester with a 55-51 win over the Engineers in Northampton on January 4.
Lizzy BelBruno (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) led Smith with 12 points. The Pioneers shot 60% in the first half, then weathered an MIT comeback for a narrow win.
Smith Overview: Smith used a big second half to break open a two point game at halftime in a 74-57 win over WPI on Wednesday night.
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) led four Smith players in double-figures with 19 points.
Lizzy BelBruno (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) had 13, while
Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) and
Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) had 12 each. The Pioneers sizzled from three point range, connecting on 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from behind the arc.
MIT Overview: The loss to Smith started a four game losing streak for MIT, which was snapped by a 45-41 win over Wheaton on Wednesday night. The Engineers opened January with a a tough schedule, facing Clark, Babson, and Springfield in addition to Smith.
Smith Player to Watch: Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) bounced back in a big way, scoring 15 of her 19 points in the first half against WPI.
MIT Player to Watch: Mari Kordell is the team's leading scorer, and tossed in 15 points in the win over Wheaton.
