NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (12-4, 7-3 NEWMAC) will look to make a clean sweep of their road trip when they take on long time rival Mount Holyoke (3-13, 1-9 NEWMAC) on Wednesday evening. Smith has defeated Mount Holyoke five consecutive times.
Last Meeting: Maddie Page (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Acad.) had 18 points, eight rebounds, and four steals as Smith opened up NEWMAC play with a 66-33 win over Mount Holyoke on November 30.
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) added 17 points as Smith limited the Lyons to 10-for-41 shooting from the floor.
Smith Overview: After alternating wins and losses for four games, Smith is back on track after consecutive road wins over WPI and MIT last week. The Pioneers received a balanced effort in the 61-36 win over MIT, as five different players scored at least eight points.
Mount Holyoke Overview: A tough start to the year has been brightened over the last four games for the Lyons; Mount Holyoke succumbed to WPI in overtime before earning their first conference win with a 63-51 triumph over Coast Guard. Close losses to Springfield and Wheaton have followed, but the Lyons have gone 2-5 since the New Year.
Smith Player to Watch: Brittany Purington (Weare, N.H./John Stark) played 15 solid minutes off the bench against MIT, netting a career high eight points.
Mount Holyoke Player to Watch: Angelica Pascual leads the team in scoring, and is averaging 16 points per contest over her last four games.
