Smith is now 4-1 overall, and 2-0 in the NEWMAC, while Wheaton drops to 3-3, with a 1-1 ledger against NEWMAC opposition.
The Lyons committed 22 of those turnovers in the first half, as Smith broke open a close game. Meanwhile, The Pioneers turned a 6-4 lead into an 11-4 lead on a three pointer from
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) and a pair of free throws from
Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster). A layup from
Lauren Weston (Florence, Mass./Northampton) and Solis' steal and fastbreak hoop put Smith up 19-6.
Two more free throws from Quattrocchi gave Smith its biggest advantage of the half at 38-15, and the Pioneers took a 40-20 lead into halftime.
Solis scored six straight points in the early stages of the second half, knocking down a three point shot and converting a traditional three point play as Smith took a 48-24 lead at the 17:45 mark, but back-to-back layups by Brickley got Wheaton within 17 and forced Smith into a timeout.
Alyssa Barrett (Berlin, Conn./Berlin)'s jumper gave Smith a 29 point (66-37) lead at the 7:55 mark, and Smith never led the lead get below 24 the rest of the way.
Solis finished with 16 points, knocking down 6-of-11 field goals.
Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) scored 14 points, connecting on all eight of her free throws, and passed out six assists. The Pioneers had assists on 14 of 27 baskets.
Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate) had 12 points, and
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) had 10.
Brickley was the lone Lyon in double-digits with 16 points.
