NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (7-1) will look to close the semester on a high note when the Pioneers play host to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (5-3) on Wednesday evening. Smiith has won 22 of the 25 meetings between the schools.
Last Meeting: Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) dropped 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds as Smith withstood a second half rally from the Blazers in a 64-59 win on December 14, 2011. Drummond hit a pair of three pointers in the final minute as Smith outscored MCLA 11-4 in the last two minutes.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers won their fifth straight game with a 68-47 win over Trinity College on Saturday. Smith defeated the Bantams for the first time in 10 years thanks to 17 points from
Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill). Solis put the game away with a personal 8-0 run in the second half, as Smith won their third game in six days.
MCLA Overview: The Blazers have won two in a row, with victories over St. Joseph's (CT) and SUNY-Canton. Today's game begins a set of four away from home for MCLA, which will include a trip to Pennsylvania to take part in the Hoops For Hounds Tournament at Lycoming College.
Smith Player to Watch: Marissa Munoz-Ruiz (Fairfield, Calif./Justin-Siena) played a season high 28 minutes off the bench against Trinity, contributing a season high seven points and adding three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
MCLA Player to Watch: Lucy Tremblay scored her 1,000th career point against St. Joseph's, part of a whopping 39 point effort where she shot 14-of-22 from the field and 7-of-11 from the foul line.
Did you know? Saturday's win over Trinity was the first time Smith did not score 70 points in a winning effort this year.
