Game Preview: Basketball vs. Trinity (Conn.)

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (6-1) will be looking for its fifth consecutive win when the Pioneers play host to Trinity College (Conn.) (5-2) in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.  The Bantams have won the last nine meetings between the teams, and lead the all-time series 28-7.


Last Meeting: Smith led 30-24 at halftime, but was outscored 35-23 in the second half in a 59-53 loss on the road on December 10, 2011.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) led Smith with 13 points, while Ellie Giles (Charlottesville, Va./St. Annes Belfield) added 10 points and seven boards.

Last Smith Win: Dasen Woitkowski scored 29 points as Smith beat the Bantams in overtime, 59-55, on December 2, 2002.

Smith Overview: The Pioneers won their fourth straight game with a 74-57 win over Coast Guard on Thursday night.  Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) scored a career high 20 points, while Alyssa Barrett (Berlin, Conn./Berlin), Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate), and Amanda Zakoske (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) each chipped in 10 points.  The Pioneers are now 4-0 in league play for the first time in school history.

Trinity Overview: The Bantams have won two in a row, both over MASCAC opposition, with road wins over Worcester State and Salem State last week.  Today's game is the third of seven straight games away from home for Trinity, that will end on January 8.

Smith Player to Watch:  Barrett's 10 points off against Coast Guard were a career high, and the sophomore shooter has emerged as a key contributor off the bench.

Trinity Player to Watch: Junior Taylor Murtaugh is averaging 9.3 points per game, shooting 46.8 percent from the field.
