NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team can make it a lucky seven in a row with a win over Clark University on Wednesday night. A win would give the Pioneers (16-4, 11-3 NEWMAC) the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Cougars (14-7, 10-4 NEWMAC), who are one game behind Smith in the league standings.
Last Meeting: Smith made easy work of the Cougars in a 92-59 win on January 11.
Maddie Page (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Acad.) led four Smith players in double-figures with a career high 19 points, as Smith scored the most points in a game for 13 years.
Smith Overview: The win over Clark started a streak of seven wins in eight games, including six win in a row. In their last game, Smith overwhelmed Coast Guard 73-51 behind 12 points apiece from
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth),
Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill), and
Maddie Page (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Acad.). Every member of the team played at least 10 minutes.
Clark Overview: A 58-53 loss to Wellesley College snapped a four game winning streak for Clark. Welesley led throughout, but a 16-1 run by Clark cut the lead to 51-49 with 5:32 left. Wellesley sank three free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Smith Player to Watch: Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last week, knocking down 60 percent of her three point shots.
Clark Player to Watch: Emily Reilly averages a team leading 13.6 points per game, and has hit double-figures in 19 of 21 games this year.
