Game Preview: Basketball vs. WPI

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (12-2, 7-1 NEWMAC) will return to the comfort of home to face Worcester Polytechnic Institute (9-5, 5-3 NEWMAC) on Wednesday evening.  WPI leads the all-time series 21-12, but Smith has won the last four meetings.

Last Meeting:  Smith advanced to the NEWMAC Championship game for the second consecutive year with a 70-51 win over WPI on February 25, 2011.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) had 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Smith hit the 20 victory plateau for the first time in school history.

Smith Overview:  The Pioneers had their school record 10 game winning streak ended with a 59-50 loss to No. 22 Babson College on Saturday afternoon.  The Pioneers held a 32-28 lead at halftime, but shot just 20 percent in the second half, falling despite forcing 35 Babson turnovers.

WPI Overview: The Engineers had a three game win streak ended with a 56-38 road loss to Wellesley College on Saturday.  WPI hit just 14 shots in total for the game, and went to the free throw line a mere four times.

Smith Player to Watch:  Since the return from break, Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) is averaging 12.8 points per game and passing out nearly four assists.

WPI Player to Watch: Theresa Logan is averaging 11.1 points, 6.7 boards, and has sunk 86.8 (33-38) of her free throws this year.
