NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (15-2, 10-1 NEWMAC) hits the road to travel to Wheaton College (Mass.) (7-11, 4-7 NEWMAC) on Saturday. Smith has won the last four meetings between the schools.
Last Meeting: Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) was one of four Smith players in double-figures as Smith cruised past Wheaton, 70-46, on December 1, 2012. Wheaton committed 36 turnovers, leading to 42 points for Smith.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers notched their straight win with a 65-44 triumph over Mount Holyoke on Wednesday night. Smith recovered for a poor shooting first half to outscore the Lyons 32-16 in the second half.
Wheaton Overview: The Lyons have lost five of six and six of eight games since Jan. 5, with the only win being a 61-58 overtime win over MIT on January 16. Wheaton fell to Coast Guard 48-41 in their most recent contest.
Smith Player to Watch: Bethany Claps (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Acad.) had a strong game off the bench against Mount Holyoke, scoring all 10 of her points in the first half.
Wheaton Player to Watch: Abbie Brickley averages 11.4 points per game, shooting just a hair under 50% from the field, and making 76.6% of her free throws.
