NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--A late season non-conference game could have a big impact on the Smith College basketball team (16-2) when the Pioneers host No. 22 Williams College (16-3) on Monday evening. Williams has won 23 of the 34 all-time meetings between the schools.
Last Meeting: Cassie Puccinelli scored a team high 15 points, but Williams came away with a 79-53 win on December 11, 2004.
Last Smith Win: Smith has not defeated Williams for 25 years, coincidentally winning by the same 79-53 score on February 18, 1986.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers have now won four straight thanks to a 74-60 road victory over Wheaton College on Saturday. Led by 20 ponts from
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth), Smith pulled away thanks to a 12-2 run midway through the first half. Heading into the final stretch run of the regular season, Smith is on pace to set a new school record for league wins, breaking last year's mark of 14.
Williams Overview: The Ephs are coming off a 62-36 win over Middlebury to improve to 5-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Williams, who has been in and out of the d3hoops.com Top 25 all season, only has losses to No. 4 Amherst (by six points), No. 6 Tufts (by four points), and Bridgewater State (by one point) on its resume.
Smith Player to Watch: Lauren Weston (Florence, Mass./Northampton) has provided some valuable minutes off the bench recently, averaging 7.5 points and six rebounds in 15 mpg in the last two contests.
Williams Player to Watch: Claire Baecher is averaging 12.0 points per game, while pulling down 6.3 boards and blocking 2.2 shots per contest. She's one of four Ephs who have started every game this season.
