NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team begins New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play when the Pioneers (0-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) host Clark University (2-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.


Last Meeting: Smith topped the Cougars 71-56 on February 6, 2013.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) scored eight points to reach the 1,000 mark for her career.  It was also the 100th win for head coach Lynn Hersey.

The Series: Clark leads 29-12, but Smith has won the last six meetings between these two.

Fast Facts: Clark won the Worcester City Women's Basketball Tournament for the second straight year last weekend...the Cougars beat Becker and WPI...Ashleigh Condon was named MVP of the tournament...the Cougars were picked third in the NEWMAC preseason poll...Smith fell to Roger Williams on Saturday in their season opener...Jazmine Collins (Springfield, Mass./Sabis) made her season debut with a 19 point, seven rebound performance...Lauren Weston (Florence, Mass./Northampton) made her first career start...Smith held a 21-11 edge on the offensive glass...it was the first loss in a season opener for six years for Smith.

Up Next:  Smith hits the road for the first time when the Pioneers travel to Babson College on Saturday for a 2 p.m contest.  Clark will also be on the road, heading to cross-town rival WPI on Saturday.
